| IDF Commanders Perform Week-Long Exercise As a part of the company and battalion commanders course, the Nahal Brigade and the 401 armored Brigade performed an week long exercise. |
They're turning to on the Company and Battalion exercises pretty quick after the recent hostilities.
Additional the units involved, the 401st Armored and the Nahal Brigades were some of the units most involved in the fighting. Either they're expecting more action real soon, or the battle went worse than we're being told.
Or their using it as a recovery tool. Sometimes the best rehab after a fight is drills and training, gets you refocused.

DeleteI'll bet it is a lot simpler than that. My guess is that course completions (week long exercises are usually at or near the end of these courses) were interrupted by operations in Gaza. I know for a fact the squad leaders course was. My young neighbor was in that course, got pulled with all his course to go to Gaza right near the end of the course, was later returned to do the completion exercises and graduated the course just this past week. Now he goes back to Givati and awaits assignment.
ReplyDeleteI understand that on the tactical level most of the operation was successful. There were some mistakes and and soldiers killed or wounded unnecessarily. One instance was the loss of five soldiers in an isolated outpost to a Hamas commando type raid. They did not observe correct military behavior, for which I blame their commanders. Additionally they were inexperienced, taken from the middle of a training program. Many soldiers were hit by mortar fire in the assembly areas near the border prior to entering the Gaza Strip; more than in the CQB. These areas should have been sited farther out of mortar range. Seven soldiers were killed in an unprotected (by additional means) M113 which had no business to be in range of RPGs in the combat area.
ReplyDeleteI do however have critical opinions about the strategic direction of the war, including the length of the fighting and the limited maneuver dictated by the GHQ. All the moves were easily predicted by Hamas and no special forces were used in significant quantities.
The above course is a healthy sign of continued training and learning from the lessons of the war.
